le soutien, la contention et le rassemblement du bébé

French to English Medical Medical (general) rassemblement

rassemblement What rassemblement means here is that the child is kept in a flexed position so that s/he is able to maintain a more foetal position. This in turn facilitates bringing hands to mouth, etc... and avoids orthopaedic complications.

Liz, indeed restraining would be worrying!

Swaddling? A method often used to give the baby a secure feeling, similar to being in the womb http://www.babycenter.com/0_swaddling-your-baby_125.bc//Here... one that mentions "positioning aids." http://baby.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Preemie_Swaddling_Wrap
janisct (asker) Oct 1, 2010:
re containing for 'contention': here I think it means containing its movements, which surely is another way of saying restraining it?
liz askew Oct 1, 2010:
for "rassemblement" I can only think of "keeping the baby snug" at the moment:)
liz askew Oct 1, 2010:
Hi, wouldn't "contention" = contain, rather than "restrain".

se rassembler = gathering itself together (curling up?)

Il faut alors aider l'enfant à se rassembler. Le bébé serre les poings et ramène ses mains sur sa poitrine : l'adulte peut accompagner et faciliter ce ...

@ janisct:

IMO, there is nothing wrong whatsoever with saying "restraining a baby".

IMO, "restraining a baby" means protecting a baby from harm and making sure that it is safe and secure at all times.
