French term

la diurèse est conservée

Just to make sure, is diuresis normal or is urine retained or what? The patient also suffers from renal insufficiency.

kidney/renal failure used more commonly than insufficiency

urine output is maintained

In this context, the writer is simply saying that the patient is producing urine, not necessarily a large amount. This is important because when he stops producing urine he may be going into shock.

I use the term "producing urine" because this is not exactly the same thing as urinating. The patient is likely catheterized so that his urine output can be monitered. (Normal people produce urine continually, then urinate when the bladder is full.)

Although the urine may be collected in a graduated bag to measure output, I can assure you, it is disposed of as soon as the bag is full!
