French term

report déporté

French to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
This is from a set of nuclear safety inspection guidelines. Inspectors are expected to check machinery for alarms and I suppose who gets the alert: one of the criteria is

report local ou déporté

local or distant alert?

Thanks!

Discussion

GeoS Oct 11, 2010:
I agree with Bourth. local/remote signalling sounds better.
Bourth (X) Oct 8, 2010:
Yes, local/remote. What it means is, is the problem signalled in the vicinity of the equipment in question, where a rondier will be alerted to it when he passes at regular intervals, or is it brought out to the control room (or possibly some other place), such as would be the case for the more critical faults, those demanding urgent attention.
Jean-Paul VIGUIÉ Oct 8, 2010:
Your translation is very good. I suggest "remote" instead of distant.

neutral Tony M : 'remote', yes... but not really 'control' for 'report', if this is a case of alarm signalling...
