waste stack
Stack definitely translates "colonne" here. Remains to be seen if this is a wastewater stack, soil stack, or generic.
Downpipe tends to be for rainwater (external).
Having said that, "stack" on its own will suffice:
stack - (1) A vertical pipe to carry the main discharge from sanitary pipework or for its ventilation. Branch pipes enter a stack at its junctions. Stacks can be for soil water and waste water, or a single stack.

downpipe
It would of course be immensely helpful if you actually told us where this potential leak situation is — are we talking about a building, some plant, what?

waste pipe
Just an alternative suggestion but including the notion of 'vidange'.
