car names
Describing a car (model) name and the reasons it was chosen:
"Ce nom évoque les grands espaces maîtrisés"
"Wide-open spaces" for "grands espaces", but stuck on "maîtrisés". I'd rather not give away the name of the car but to be frank in my opinion there is zero connection between it and these "grands espaces" !
As always, many thanks.

brought within reach / opened up
or something along those lines.
Note from asker:
"Wide-open spaces brought within reach" fits well for a car. :-) |

Comment: ""Brought within reach" went best in the context. Thank you everyone for helping."

What about "mastered"?

tamed
but how you plan to put this all together defeats me: it is a name that conjures up the taming of the wide open spaces. I presume the idea is that with this jalopy the wide open spaces are yours for the taking?
A name redolent of the wide open spaces waiting to be tamed.
Yuk!

Note from asker:
Except I also have "untamed nature" for "nature sauvage" earlier in the text (not something you could guess, obviously!). Thanks though, it's a good suggestion. |
PS. Thanks for "redolent of". I've suggested, implied, evoked, recalled, brought to mind, hinted at... and was running out of synonyms! |

conquered
It's not a literal translation, but I think the phrase refers to the spaces (e.g. land, air, sea) that man has "conquered" through the development of such devises as ***cars***, planes, spaceships etc.
