I was just wondering whether this phrase would have a specific context as an exclusion in a Personal Accident policy for sportsmen, or whether, as I suspect, it is simply being used in a general context (in which case, I am aware of its meaning). The exclusion reads:
"Tous les risques d'accident sont couverts sauf les conséquences des faits ou évenéments ci-après:
...
- Participation à des exercices acrobatiques, sauts dans le vide, paris ou défis..."
Many thanks for any help.

How specific do we have to be here?

: As an insurance specialist, I'd advise caution here: while the French are happy with just "saut dans le vide", the English-speaking insurance world will probably want to be specific. But is this what translation is about? Ask client, to be safe.

Participation à des exercices acrobatiques, sauts dans le vide - Engaging or intend to engage in any of the following: parachuting, hang gliding, sky diving, parasailing, bungee jumping...
Most life insurance applications and policies in the United States are specific in their description of any type of hobby or activity relating to "falling to earth at great heights".
Not knowing the exact intention of the insurance company in this case, I would consider these suggestions:
1. exercices acrobatiques - all activity relating to parachuting, hang gliding, sky diving and parasailing
2. sauts dans le vide - bungee jumping
