I'm uncomfortable with the literal translation of this phrase.

Context:

"Le corps d'Othon III, fut accompagné à sa sépulture au Palatium d'Aquisgranum par l'archevêque de Cologne et par d'autres évêques (qui avaient participé au synode de Todi), pour qu'il y attende le jour de jugement avec Charles, son **prédécesseur de pieuse mémoire."
