rencontrent un succès

Non-PRO French to English Marketing General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters shoes
Hi again,

Sorry yet another question, actually it is the whole sentence that is bothering me, here it is:

D’Hollywood à Tokyo, de Milan à Paris, les créations de la marque X rencontrent un succès unanime

my translation:

From Hollywood to Tokyo and from Milan to Paris, the creations of brand X encounter worldwide success.

Please help
Thank you

Asker I think you have sufficient input now to re-phrase this into natural English. If not, then you need to send your proposed translation, when completed, to a reviser.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Oct 31, 2011:
unanime After having listed major cities across the world, something you can do nothing about in your translation, it reads a little stragnely to translate 'unanime' as worldwide. It works sometimes though, but not here in my opinion.

With Polyglot You've clearly understood the French sentence. Now you need to express it in English - the second half of your proposal sounds awfully French at the moment. Encounter is not a verb I'd normally use with success, preferring: meet with, enjoy, prove...
polyglot45 Oct 31, 2011:
if you are still talking about shoes creations is not a good word - designs, styles..... would be better. You could also say 'to prove a success' or "are a big hit" or even turn it round and say that shoppers are snapping them up. All depends on register
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Oct 31, 2011:
There are a number of solutions, the choice being to stick with a synonym of encounter, meet with, whatever. Even the verb 'be' could be used, in the passive voice. The potential tricky bit would be the choice of tense, which could given consideration with fuller context.

@Allegro Thank you, actually I can't quite put a finger on it :s

Cannot see any problem Your translation is correct. What do you need help with?
You could perhaps use the past tense in English but it's your choice and would depend on the rest of the text.
