French term

dans un but d'information de l'actualité

French to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters use of personal data
This is the 'Règlement de l'universite' for students enrolling at X, a Belgian university so Belgian French. In the section on data protection:

X conservera également vos données dans un but d'information de l'actualité X, promotion et prestation de l'ensemble des services offerts aux anciens étudiants et réalisations statistiques relatives aux anciens étudiants X.

Perhaps I'm confusing it with actualisation, but I interpret this as 'with a view to ensuring that X records are up to date'. Or does it have more to do with 'supplying information for X news'? Perhaps the data might be used in articles published by the university without having to ask permission? I find the use of 'information' unclear too so, all in all, I'm open to suggestions as to the right interpretation!

for informing about current affairs...

Simply
Peer comment(s):

disagree philgoddard : No, and "for informing about" is not standard English.

I do not think so
disagree AllegroTrans : it's news about X, not about current affairs and "informing about" is not standard English

in order to offer a current picture of X (in terms of student enrollment, etc)

Hello,

I really don't like "with a view" in English here. I would say they they will keep student's data on file as as way to have a current picture of the unversity for perspective students, or something like that.

dans un but = in order to/as a way to

d'information de l'actualité = informing of updates (but d'informer...)

I hope this helps.
