Champagne description
I've done quite a few wine descriptions but this term is a first time and I'm stuck. All I need is something vaguely suitable.

a marriage made in Heaven (by the wine gods)
I'm not too sure that a pun or wordplay is always culturally equivalent to a witty jeu de mots.
Most puns are met with groans.
So, something else.
A "accord" is a marriage, often between food and wine, but here between the Chardonnay grape and the Craie wine estate, which I believe is in 71, Saône-et-Loire, down the road from me.
The best thing that comes to mind is my suggestion.
Heaven can be without a capital H..I...think!
Further on, for "depuis longtemps" etc., you could say something like "a loving and long-lasting one [marriage]".

AN accord, oops!
Note from asker:
I like this - it allows me to say "A marriage made in heaven - Chardonnay and Chalk have lived harmoniously together for many a year." (And thanks for the craic!) |

: Lovely! This is where havnig the full context really helps. The "bon ménage" at the end of the sentence may or may not have contributed to triggering this idea. In any eevnt, it's a great one.

as combinations arise
Hello Claude,
I think a wide range of translations might be contemplated here, since no literal one, such as "from match to match" would fit. Using the word harmony would be an option, although it might be understood as the harmony of the wine as a whole rather than between two components.
Best regards
Gregory

as complements of each other
That's how I interpret it.

I think, because of the last sentence of your context, that "complements" would be a good choice.

Perhaps, "as perfect complements/as a perfect complement to", in the last instance.

Tony M
: There is no notion of 'concluding an accord' here — in œnology, 'accord mets-vin' means what dishes this wine will accompany well; 'accord' here is a faux ami, the meaning in EN being far more restrictive than in FR.

Discussion
L'inutile c'est the spice of life, Irvine Welsh.
I'm actually starting to have a theory that it's a French thing (maybe you're not French, but anyway) to assume that the parties you're communicating with will understand without being given a nudge in the right direction.
For us in Dijon, 71 is country! Johnny Cash or silence.
Just for the craic:
That's a roundabout way of saying I think you're right!
Emmanuella, I've got a photographic memory for song lyrics (mixed metaphor)...
The great sérieux and savoir-faire of my fellow Burgundians down in 71 would prevent them from referencing pop culture, hahaha!
They don't put Boyzone lyrics in Guinness ads, for good reason!!!
