French term
confondue
Not sure whether confused is OK in this context.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA Chris.

Cyril should suggest it as an answer!
concurrent, convergent or converging
Thus, as seen in Figure 3, the horizontal direction X-X' is concurrent to the longitudinal direction when the aircraft 10 is facing the landing area 18
or
Thus, as seen in Figure 3, the horizontal direction X-X' is converging to the longitudinal direction when the aircraft 10 is facing the landing area 18
Definition of concurrent
1 : operating or occurring at the same time
2a : running parallel
b : convergent specifically : meeting or intersecting in a point

physics
A concurrent force is one of two or more forces that are in effect at the same time.

The rays become more convergent as they leave the lens.

Concurrent means 1.) occurring at the same time, 2.) approaching the same point, 3.) having equal authority, 4.) harmonious. Concurrent is an adjective, related words are concurrently and concurrency.

Definition of convergent
1 : tending to move toward one point or to approach each other : converging convergent lines

Here, one can see that the sequence is converging to the limit 0 as n increases

The path formed by connecting the partial sums of a conditionally convergent series is infinitely long. The power series of the logarithm is conditionally convergent.

Discussion
What about "X is coincident with Y" ?
Examples from the Ouèbbhe :
"Two lines that lie on top of one another are called
coincident lines".
"these two lines are coincident, only you can't see them
both, because they are on top of each other"
"Two lines are coincident means lines are meeting at
infinite many points"
"Whether the system has a solution or not depends on whether
the two lines are coincident (that is, the same line). "
I'm not even going to give this a "neutral" as it is a valid and worthy attempt and I have my own suggestion up but I do think that there is a difference between "merge", or "coincides with" and "align" in that if two things are aligned, they are parallel but could be some distance apart.
And my reading on this is that there is no distance separating them so I kind of lean towards my suggestion or Cyril's but I'm not trying to hard sell them so feel free to say "wrong" to me.
Nothing to do with confusion as such
