French term

groupe électrogène de sécurité / de remplacement

French to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation
In a pre-construction checklist:

I would usually translate these both as "backup" generating sets - but obviously that is no good here

I have found a useful link re. French standards which helps explain the "de securité" option:

On this basis I was thinking of translating

Groupe électrogène de securité as "emergency generating set"
as the more literal "safety generating set" sounds odd to me, and from the standard's text it would appear that this would be used in an emergency
whilst
Groupe électrogène de remplacement as "backup generating set"

Could anyone confirm if I have the right end of the stick?

Please can you post an answer, so I can award you points for your helpful confirmation
Anton Konashenok Oct 25, 2010:
"Backup" and "emergency" are indeed the two alternatives you are looking for, it's their correct engineering appellations.
Elizabeth Niklewska (asker) Oct 25, 2010:
2 alternatives needed I need to put 2 different translations of the 2 terms - I explained that I also would have put "backup generator set" for either
Anton Konashenok Oct 25, 2010:
