French term

coplanaire ...à une position

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng étui d\'appareil électr
Hello,

"une tranche reliant la face arrière à la face avant et formant une première articulation entre la face avant et la face arrière pour permettre à l'étui de passer d'une première position ouverte où la face avant est coplanaire à la face arrière à une deuxième position de protection où la face avant est rabattue sur la face arrière ;"

My problem here is should I put "in a second position"?
"...for the case to move from a first open position where the front side is coplanar with the rear side in a second protective position where..."

à=in? in this sentence
Thank you for your help!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

@Tony Yes I was parsing it wrongly!
as for confidentiality it has a lot more to it than that, so no I don't believe I'm disclosing info.
Thank you for your help as always.
Tony M Mar 2, 2013:
Confidentiality? I hope you're not giving away confidential information with what appears to be a patent here?
Tony M Mar 2, 2013:
So we now know... ...that what is clever about this 'tranche' is that it allows the whole thing to fold in this (slightly!) special way.
Tony M Mar 2, 2013:
Parsing I think you are parsing it wrongly; you need to look at it as:

"permettre ... de passer d'une première position ... à une deuxième position..."

Quite simply 'to go from... to...'

Tony, I've only just seen your comment in the discussion about the parsing, sorry! Didn't mean to repeat what you had already said! :)
