Hello, I need some finding a good, firm translation for "dessin-langage". This phrase is the title and the focus of the document, which means it reoccurs regularly from beginning to end.
The document is about a series of sketches, each describing a specific work-related situation, that are comical and provoking and are meant to spark discussions between staff members. The main goal when applying the sketches is to improve educative practices, etc. for adults working with young children. I suppose the concept is similar to "photolanguage".
Here are my first set of ideas:
"Drawing communication"
"communicative drawings"
"communicative sketches"
"communicating with sketches (or with drawings)
Many thanks in advance!

picture-prompt
If it's a design/picture whose purpose is to promote discussion, that makes me think of it as a "prompt". A bit like when actors are given a "prompt" to help them remember lines, it acts as a stimulus - see OED below...
See OED meaning 2: Later also more generally: anything which when seen, heard, etc., acts as a stimulus or guide to some action; a cue.

: Yes! That's the one. Not entirely sure about the hyphen, though: out of context, it leads me more to something designed to prompt a picture.

Thanks Victoria! I did consider the hyphen and decided to keep it as both dessin-langage and picture-prompt are being used in a very specific way/context here, so the word pairs should stay as a unit (open to opinion of course!)

Communicative drawing
I think that Communicative Drawing would fit as the objective behind is to communicate and talk.

pictograph/pictogram
I agree that we need more context before we can be sure what will fit, but this should be a fairly close fit, I'd have thought.

Alternatively, pictorial communication may be the best term, or something similar.

: "Pictogram" has a number of meanings but they all have in common that they convey one single message. They are a substitute for language rather than a tool supporting discussion. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictogramme

Thanks Nikki. I can see your point, though the Asker does say "each describing a specific work-related situation". But perhaps my later suggestion would be better?

Pictures (sketches) to speak to
If you're looking for a more informal title.....This won't work of course if you're looking for a term that will recur throughout the document.
Another option might be: Pictures as language

Discussion
So delighted that you have such a huge array of answers and don't hesitate to choose the most semantically and contextually fit in your text. We are not losing a 1.0000.0000 $ prize. Good luck.
I'd like to test a few of the options with potential readers of the document and see which ones get the most thumbs up. I'll keep you posted, and thanks again for the time and help!
I hope this helps.
Someone asked about "sketches", the drawings are like cartoons, but I chose "sketches" in hopes to keep a serious/general/professional tone (if that makes any sense).
