Good evening.
I've 2 more terms whose meaning in context I'm anxious to pinpoint:
1. Admissible;
2. admis partiel.
Both expressions are presented in the context of university level exam results.
Regards,
Peter Field.
P.S. Many thanks for the responses so far to my question concerning the expression 'Filière SNV'.

admitted to the superior level but without validating the inferior one
In my school, we allow students in a given level (with enough credits) access to the following level without validating the lower level. "dette".
To validate the upper level the student must have completely validated the lower level. So even if a student has passing grades for the upper level, he doesn't get credit for those until the inferior level is completely validated.
Admissible is most of the time used for some competitive exams for which the first part is written and must be passed to get access to the second "oral" exams. The passing grade may vary with a "numerus clausus". i.e. If the promotion is very strong, the passing grade will be higher...
