HI,
I'm translating a quote for the construction of a swimming pool. The words "coffre rideau" come up quite often and I have looked everywhere, and cannot find the translation that doesn't seem clumsy.
One of the sentences is: "Génie civil complet en béton armé: fond, mur, coffre rideau etc".
Another is "Goulottes de 6ml dans le coffre rideau"
Any help will be more that appreciated :)

Hi,
Its is a rectangular pool 12m x 6m and is being built for private use in france. I cannot give more info regarding the 6mm goulottes as that is all that is stated. I have come up with safety cover or net, but it just seems clumsy and thought there might be a more technical term for coffre rideau.

Perhaps it's some sort of roller shutter cabinet used to house pool equipment. Or (and this is a long shot) perhaps it's a roller shutter cover that slides over the surface of the water and the "coffre" is the cabinet/box that it rolls in and out of. In any case, you'll have to ask the client in order to find out.

Details? Can you give us any clue about what sort of pool this is and where it is being installed?

Is this literally some kind of 'curtain', that maybe rolls up (or slides?) into this 'box' of some sort? How big is the pool, and does the 6 m dimension bear any logical relation to its dimensions? Without further information, it's hard to tell if this is a 'coffre' that in some way has the form of or acts as a 'rideau', or if it is a 'coffre' to contain a 'rideau'.

As per KudoZ guidelines, please tell us what translations you have already considered, and why you have rejected them?

I think that this is simply the 'coffre à rideau' that is the box which houses the pool cover/blanket and the roller mechanism. The 'rideau de piscine' is the pool cover and the coffre is the box that houses it. These can be recessed into the ground or above the ground in the case of pools.
