inspection equipment

e.g. Auscultation du béton précontraint par radiométrie microonde = Inspection of prestressed concrete by microwave radiometry.
I think inspection or assessment is more easily understood in English than auscultation.

neutral B D Finch : No, the point about "auscultation", which is a term used in English, is that it is non-destructive inspection. I used to translate it as "sonic testing"; but it is not only that, as your own example demonstrates.
