French term

plateau surbaissé avec retrait

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
Service contract for the provision of handheld audioguides in a museum. As far as i can tell, the "mobiliers" referred to are collection points, storage racks, information desks etc.

I cannot even picture what this is referring to - all help appreciated!

Discussion

Bourth (X) Nov 13, 2009:
Definitely "low level shelves" etc. but retrait puzzles me somewhat. I cannot imagine the shelves being recessed below something since this would only make it more difficult for people to place things there. Maybe the recess is below the shelf/counter so that people have room to manoeuvre their sticks or crutches (like outriggers, unless there is room to position them, they prevent the people coming close enough to place things on the counter). "With overhang"?

Note from asker:
aah - of countertops not floors. That makes much more sense!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Having considered Bourth's comments (with the due consideration they always deserve!), then if we're talking about countertops perhaps recessed means there is a chunk cut out the front of the desk to allow wheelchair users to pull up closer?"
