French term

fétichisation

Thanks for the responses and comments

Yes, Anthony, I agree. I think both have the general idea, but I would say in this case, the sense is that the person/delegate is being idolized.

Thanks to both of you for responding to my question, I appreciate it.
Non-ProZ.com Aug 31, 2004:

I don't know, idolisation seems to actually make sense to me here, in this case - referring to idolizing this delegate/representative. If it's actually fetish, then how would you translate the rest of that sentence? What would be the idea - that people have a fetish for this person? It would make more sense to say they idolize this person.

idolisation

a "fétiche" does not have the same nuance as fetish, only the base sense of an idol, a statue of a god

I think that there is an unfortunate sense of obsession, not of the best sort, that makes fetish difficult. My fetishes can be abstract, my idols not.

neutral df49f (X) : fétichiser#idolatrer - ici fétiche et non idole (pas exactement la même chose neither in French nor in English) - Changed my initial disagree - in this context "idolize" might work better?? (though other suggestion was "fetish" and not "fetiche")
