French term

justification des pouvoirs

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Demande de permis exclusif de recherches
This is one of the requirements for making an application for a hydrocarbon research permit and the document must be enclosed with the application itself. Does anyone have any idea what type of document is required for this "justification des pouvoirs de la personne qui a signé la demande" in English?

Any help and explanations would be really appreciated!

Discussion

cc in nyc Mar 21, 2011:
This is not a translation issue... But it will probably take more than "articles of association... that name the signatory as a shareholder" but rather that name him/her as an authorized signatory.

Which documents would be required do you think? I was thinking of suggesting to the client that they enclose the articles of association of the company that name the signatory as a shareholder or something of this kind. Any opinions?

proof of authority

There might be a more formal way of saying this but IMO what it basically means is there should be proof that the signatory has the authority to sign the document in question.

documentary evidence of the signatory's powers

Compte tenu du contexte (administratif et formalisé), je crois qu'il est préférable d'employer en anglais un vocabulaire plus formel également...

If it is required to proove that the person's power of attorney is genuine by presenting the credentials of the person who issued it, would it not then be necessary to provide the credentials of the person who gave the person authority to issue the power of attorney?
It's a bit like believing in God, really (but who created God? And if God has always existed, why can't the Universe have always existed?).
