Is there such a thing as "axle rotation"? I don't get any hits for that.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Nikki Scott-Despaigne

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

tire rotation

The invoice shows the customer bought 2 new tires, plus the fitting charge for these, and also had the tires "rotated" - i.e., the back tires were swapped with the front tyres (probably diagonally). This is done to ensure that the new tires are placed in the most-advantageous position (front or back, depending on the vehicle traction - FWD/RWD), and left/rtight (to balance tire wear).

Re Asker's note below:

Try "tire rotation (front/rear)".

Alternatively, find a "quality manager" who knows something about automobiles, and will realise the problem here is in the source text, not the translation.
Note from asker:
That's what I think it is, too. Makes total sense. Let me ask you the question I'm going to get from my quality manager: How can this be tire rotation when "rotation des pneus" is tire rotation, and ESSIEUX means axles. Also, there are actually no hits for "PERMUTATION ESSIEUX."
" .. find a "quality manager" who knows something about automobiles..." Noted! In the meantime, thank you for your response. Alas, I have no choice but to cope with the one I have....
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I found "permutation des pneus entre essieux".

agree Philippe Etienne : No diagonal swap with directional tyres! If language were an exact science, there'd be only MT and voice synthesis left
10 hrs
agree Tony M : The use of 'essieux' specifically means Front / Rear swap, hence why the term 'essieux' is used, as distinct from swapping the tyres around on the same axle, etc.

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : On open search with (permutation essieux) gives hits which explain the hows and whys.
