Pain N°1/N°2

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Catalyzer testing
No other context. This is in a list of catalyzer types. Is this the 'filler' or 'stuffing' that goes inside the beast and they are comparing the 2 types?

@ All Unless there are serious objections from you I propose using either Monolith or simply element. 'Pain' would appear to be used because of the monolith being shaped like a loaf of bread!!

This is way outside my subject area, but try Googling "pain catalytique" and you might get your answer.
