I am tackling some documentation about a new engine oil. Below is some context:
"Le test moteur XXXXX a démontré que le lubrifiant XXXXX conduit à une consommation d’huile réduite de près de moitié de celle du lubrifiant de référence ce qui prouve une parfaite étanchéité de la segmentation et une efficacité maximale du moteur."
Any help with this term would be very gratefully received, as ever.

A piston ring has to do many things, including preventing the passage of gas from the cylinder head into the crank case. Leaky (non étanche) rings will cause fuel dilution, excessive carbon in the oil, and will cause general oil loss by pressurising the crank case. So avoiding leaks is a must. Obviously you can't use "watertight", but "leak-tight" might work. Personally I would concentrate on "sealing".

I'd paraphrase as "... nearly half that of the reference oil, which proved that the piston rings were perfectly sealed..." or something along those lines (and avoiding the present tense, since the tests have already happened)
