From a press release on laser trackers...
Le challenge consistait en la définition de l’interface pour l’orientation des différents plans puis en la validation et consolidation des mesures
Celles-ci ont été effectuées par un laser de poursuite XXX associé à des réflecteurs et des outillages dédiés (**mire point caché**)

hidden point device
or "hidden point rod".
My translation is extracted from my personal glossary of the Axyz software, Leica Geosystems' software that drives the "laser tracker" (I worked long for Leica G. before that company was purchased by another Swedish company).
The "hidden point device" is a device (rod) with a defined length that is placed on a hidden point (a point hidden by the feature of some object, be it a hollow or behind an object), so that the laser tracker can define the position of a hidden point.

The laser beam reflects onto the "mire point caché", so that one can precisely define the position of the "point caché" thanks to the length or known position coordinates of the "mire point caché".
I hope this is clear!
