Jane, don't automatically assume you are right. Match line is a term that is commonly used on techical drawings which makes this a possible answer. Personally, I have never heard of the term overlay axis in the context of technical drawings.

From your previous questions the context is clearly engineering drawings which make it very likely that we are referring to match lines which are used on large scale designs spread over several drawings (in your case referred to as "planches")

I don't pretend to be sure at 100% but I think my suggestion is a little bit more convincing than the term you propose, especially with the reference used
