feel

Non-PRO English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Ice-hockey video game
Players tape both the blade and knob of their sticks. They tape the blade for added protection and to give them a better feel when controlling the puck. They tape the knob for grip and it helps in picking up the stick quickly if it falls to the ice. Let's look at the reasons players tape their stick in more detail.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Hasan Darwish (asker) Dec 8, 2022:
Yes a video game of ice-hockey.
When we say a better feel when the blad touches the blade,
is it something like maneuvering? Control?
Tony M Dec 8, 2022:
@ Asker Presumably this is ice-hockey, rather than any kind of video game? Unless it is a video game of ice-hockey?

sensitivity

I think iteans so that when the blade of the (hockey?) stick contacts the 'puck', the player gets a better sensation of that contact — presumbly, it is less hard and shiny, so there is a tiny amount of 'give' in the contact, enabling the player to better judge force and direction, for example. They are better able to 'feel' (sense) the interaction with the puck...

Indirectly, it affects control — if you like, it is 'feedback' to the player from the impact between blade and puck, that thereby affects their ability to control and manœuvre the puck. An exaple might be helping you to judge the force with which the puck strikes the blade, so you then know exactly how hard to hit it.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : That would apply for the handle end, but here they are talking about the blade. / It's not really for protection, but to improve the sensation of contact with the puck; there is no actual 'touch' involved.
