English term

Israeli-Palestinian conflict

English Social Sciences Naming of bilateral relationships between nations
Which is correct: Israeli-Palestinian conflict or Israelo-Palestinian conflict?

Is there a fast rule about the naming of the first country when a bilateral relationship is expressed?

I am looking for an answer that applies to all bilateral relationships -- bellicose, peaceful, economic, cultural, or otherwise.

Israeli-Palestinian conflict

This is the commonly used expression. There is no rule. It is a matter of long-standing usage. It is different in different cases. We often hear of Franco-Arab relations, for example.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Bien que j'apprécie la contribution de nsan, il me semble qu'elle ne s'ajoute beaucoup plus à ce qui est déjà indiqué par Fuad. Merci à tous. C'était qui m'a rendu fou depuis longtemps."
