being mindful doing

English Social Sciences Psychology mindfulness
Dear colleagues,
I was wondering about the meaning of “being mindful doing” in the passages below, taken from a book about intraconnection. I think it means something along the lines of “behaving in a mindful way”, “taking action with an attitude of awareness and presence".... Do you think this interpretation may be correct?
Thank you so much for your help!

Sometimes we want to figure out what we should be doing to help. This makes sense in our body-oriented world – let’s take action in this world of things. Yet we can begin not with the doing but with being. Accessing a sense of integrative identity, we tap into a way of being beneath and before even compassionate activities. What is this state of being that may help us explore more integrative ways of acting, of doing in the world – of *** “being mindful doing” ***?

From a developmental perspective, adolescence is a time when we leave home and, ideally, cultivate the skills to move beyond our personal and cultural business as usual – which in modern times is a life of an individualistic, solo-self – to wise, integrative action in the world that we can call *** “being mindful doing.” ***

Thank you Jorge for your contribution! I agree with you.
It seems to me that they are describing a mindset; something like a state of being. It should not be take literally, but more as discriptive of an attitude.

Dear colleagues, thank you so much for your useful hints!

being mindful WHILE doing as Ice Scream says would be understood by most natives here.

Don't agree it's "crap" or "a jumble" as it's quite standard style (read NON style) for this type of content. As my dear departed mother used to say "Does paper ever refuse ink?" Not many authors write well!

Ice Scream It's taboo to criticise the source text in this business, but you're right. This is just a jumble of random words.

I understand it as "being mindful WHILE doing", but it's appalling English. You could just write whatever crap comes into your mind for all of these questions, as that's clearly what the author has done. Total failure to communicate.

Essentially, mindfulness is a way of being present in each moment, noticing what you are experiencing—with compassion and without judgement. I think that's the meaning here. :)

I agree with your interpretation. The text stresses mindfulness in general. It is like, whatever you do, do it mindfully, i.e. being in the moment and concentrating on the activity. The science has proved that multitasking is a myth. Therefore, one should concentrate on a single activity at a time. So, "being mindful doing" actually means doing each activity in a mindful way. It has 2 words ending in -ing and thus sounds a bit weird. That is my take.

being aware of our present actions

mindful: focusing one's awareness on the present moment, especially as part of a therapeutic or meditative technique. "tune in to your body and be mindful" (Oxford Language Dictionaries)

I would rephrase my answer to: being fully aware of our present actions.
