English term

to soar above the snow-line

Non-PRO English Other
If you detect a look of refined pain on the faces of opera singers as their voices soar above the snow-line, it is not because they are lesser vocal athletes than the great singers of the past.

sing at a very high pitch

From "snow line", meaning the (imaginary) line on a mountain above which there is always snow. "Above the snow line" means at a high altitude.

\"soar\" suggests the flight of a bird - an eagle, for example, high in the mountains - but the phrase is used metaphorically of course.

Thanks all!
agree Catherine Norton : This "snow line" is also called the "tree line"; that is, above which no trees can grow.
