femoral bearing as in ball bearing
bearing = A device that supports, guides and reduces friction of motion between moving and fixed motor parts.

Our model consists of "a femoral bearing", a tibial bearing, and arbitrary numbers of ligamentous filaments that are modeled as nonlinear springs.
From this sentence, and there are good illustrations too, it is clear that "bearing" is used as a noun. My best interpretation is as ball bearing, although I also considered bearing as in alignment.

The definition of bearing is from the Am. Heritage Dictionary.
