Well, "pizza rounds", I suppose, are quite serious discussions, not corporate parties; e.g. presentation of journal articles, case studies and even lectures. This probably means adding some informal atmosphere to a formal meeting.

On Friday, the first discussion was led by Dr. Jerry Avorn, whose department at Brigham & Women's Hospital studies prescribing patterns. Last year, the department began monthly "pizza rounds" for internal medicine residents as a counterpoint to drug company lunches. "We buy the pizza and try to unhawk the drugs," said Avorn. Next month, the department will begin training a "sales" force of residents to discourage colleagues from overusing new drugs.

In any case, I owe it to you guys an explanation as to my distress this week. It all started with preparations for my Neurology Pizza Rounds presentation. I had to prepare two chapters out of Kandell & Schwartz's Principles of Neuroscience textbook on the autonomic nervous system, and the neuroscience of emotions and feelings to present to the residents and fellows at the program director's house on Wednesday night.

pizza rounds
Sometines people talk about "doing a pizza round" or "doing a coffee round" or whatever. What it means is that one person goes around to all the people in an office, and asks them what they would like, and then goes off and buys the food/drink that everybody has ordered (they have to pay for it, of course!).
Possibly the suggestion is here that doing this would relieve the stress and monotony of work.

Well you have to go outside for a pizza round, don't you?
