English term

A Sentence from a hotel brochure

Non-PRO Homework / test English Art/Literary Linguistics Hotel Brochure
I am translating a hotel brochure into English. Please advise which of the following would be more appropriate and sound natural:

1. Please note that all purchases shall be settled at check out.

2. Please note that consumption will be charged upon check-out.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

All other incidentals to be paid upon check out

another option

-------------------

Incidentals – Charges to the guests room other than room and tax such as telephone usage, room service, pay movies, etc.

Incidentals - personal items such as dry cleaning, telephone calls, bar bills and miscellaneous items excluded from the price of a tour.

Pre-paid rooms: Hotels will collect incidentals such as meals, car parking and telephone calls separately at time of check-out.

agree Peter Skipp : A superb option I'm sorry not to have thought of myself! Incidentally (sorry, pun unintended...), I also like the contemporary hyphenless notation of "check out".

all purchases will be settled

consumption is inappropriate because more than just food can be settled with a hotel bill, especially in larger hotels

... all additional charges must be paid upon check-out.

I'd say.
Peer comment(s):

agree Armorel Young : I don't like the combination of purchases + settle (in my view you pay for a purchase but settle a bill), so much prefer something along these lines.

Thanks, Armorel, and happy new year!
agree Michael Barnett : I would not think of valet service as a "purchase" yet it would be included in the charges.

all accounts are to be settled upon check out

this is, I think, the usual way to express this in a hotal context

Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : I particularly support 'are to be', which sounds more modern and natural to my ears. Maybe 'when checking out' -- to my UK ears, a 'check-out' is what you have in a supermarket

Thank you Dusty - yes, maybe - and I quite like "prior to departure"

Thank you flipendo:)
agree Laurel Porter (X) : My preferred option - although I do like checkout as one word or hyphenated. The "are to be" in place of "must" is excellent - sounds much less bossy, more matter-of-fact.

All the costs shall be defrayed.

Quite formal and bearing legal nature.
