Then, I let the secret out of the bag. I told this person the truth about how the power and value of XXX isn't found in the process tools like kanban, etc. We know that XXX is different because of our culture. And you flat out can't copy culture.
Could someone tell me what is meant with "flat out" in this context.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Antje

In this context, it is similar to the expression "You cannot copy culture. Period."

The expression is used in a variety of ways. It is often used in the sense of \"candidly\" or \"plainly, without embelishment, hesitation, or euphemism,\" as in \"He told her flat out that she was overweight.\"
In your context, however, it seems to me that the meaning is slightly different. It is more like \"You can\'t copy culture, and that is that.\"

Not trying to cover the FACT that cultures can't be copied!
Just my thoughts.

\"Telling it as it is!\"
Concerning facts (to the speaker\'s mind, anyway).
\"I\'ll tell you straight out why I don\'t like you.\" (i.e. making no attempt to hide anything! Everything\'s out in the open.)

The speaker here truly believes you cannot copy culture, and therefore he/she could also have said:
\"And it IS a fact that you cannot copy culture!\" (especially if he/she has evidence to this fact that may or may not be known to the listener)
or
\"And I can tell you straight out...\" (If the speaker wishes to take credit for this observation or simply wishes to promote his/her point of view).
Just my thoughts.

No way...
Another way of saying it would be:
No way can you copy culture!
In other words it's absolutely impossible.
