English term
new employee indoctrination
English
Bus/Financial
Human Resources
I need a synonym for "Indoctrination" in "new employee Indoctrination" context:
Pre-Training Indoctrination on the history and policies of the retailer and a job orientation on hours, compensation, the chain of command, and job duties.

: That was the word that first occurred to me too, but it already appears in "job orientation" a little later, leading to a repetition unless the second occurrence is replaced by something else.

Good point. In view of that, I'd leave out "indoctrination" completely. Thank you.

induction
Is the usual term, in the UK anyway.
Indoctrination has negative connotations, similar to brain-washing :-)

: I hadn't come across it in this sense, but there are so many examples of it on Google that I think you're right (though induction suggests to me putting someone inside a coil of wire and passing current through it!)

: In the US, "induction" means some solemn rite of initiation. Perhaps HR types like to think of these exercises this way, but for the US I would choose something more neutral

new employee acclimation
You might consider "new team member acclimation." "Acclimation" means adjustment to a response to a change in environment.
The whole construction sounds stuffy. Although "team member" would necessitate re-writing, I bet that this documentation would be received best if the tone were really approachable, not cold and official.

induction:a formal entry into a position or office.Synonyms: initiation, installation:http://www.answers.com/induction
New employee orientation is the process for welcoming a new employee into your organization. New employee orientation, often spearheaded by a meeting with the Human Resources department, generally contains information about safety, the work environment, the new job description, benefits and eligibility, company culture, company history, and anything else relevant to working in the new company.http://humanresources.about.com/od/glossaryi/
Orientation. The process, often in program form, by which a firm introduces new members to their jobs and to the firm itself.
