English term

Living our way into the life of the whole

English Social Sciences General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Book on intraconnection
Dear colleagues,
I’m not sure about the meaning of the sentence “Living our way into the life of the whole” in the passage below.
Maybe something along these lines “choosing an existential path that leads us to live as a totality”?
Thank you so much for your help!
*************************************

Instead of isolated competitive actors in a game of winner takes all, consider how we might see the world as a web of mutual beneficence and sing the song of life into this collaborative belonging as an intraconnected whole.
*** Living our way into the life of the whole *** makes the term “greater good” come alive as a win-win-win way of being: Individually we will thrive with such belonging; the community will benefit from the altruism and care that arise; and our home, Mother Earth, will breathe a regenerative sigh of relief as we come to our senses and recognize - remind our conscious minds - of the reality of our intraconnected nature.

As per the book, surely?

“In his latest book, Dan Siegel explores a pathway toward a more sustainable way of being humans facing the multiple pandemics of our times together. Synthesizing insights from a range of disciplines and ways of knowing, he argues for expanding, evolving the notion of the self, from an isolated and separate ‘me’ to a relational, awe-embracing integrated sense—called, in his intriguing coinage, ‘MWe.’ I know of no more encouraging prescription for what ails us at this time.”

Dear colleagues, this passage is taken from the book IntraConnected by Daniel Siegel.

changing our lifestyle to better engage with the universe and with ourselves as inseparable from it

The key idea expressed is to recognize that we are not separate beings and to do something about it.
All we are is due to all there is and all there is is due to all we are.
Living our way into the whole means to live life accordingly, with this awareness so that our flourishing is not 'ours' but that of the whole universe.(what goes around comes around)

becoming a part of the wider whole

Instead of just looking after number 1.

The whole text is a bit weird and difficult to understand, but I'm pretty sure this is what your phrase means.

"Whole" being the rest of humanity and the universe.

Thank you so much, Phil, for your help!
I was thinking that maybe "living our way" may also mean: participating in the process of becoming a part of the wider whole according to his/her own abilities"

living wholesomely and connectedly

It's a strange phrase which on its own doesn't convey very much
It's better explained by the text that follows

Both a personal and general meditation on identity and belonging, Daniel J. Siegel’s book combines personal reflections with scientific discussions of how the mind, brain and our relationships shape who we are. Weaving the internal and external, the subjective and objective, IntraConnected reveals how our culture may give us a message of separation as a solo, isolated self, but a wider perspective unveils that who we are may be something more―broader than the brain, bigger even than the body―and fundamental to social systems and the natural world.
Note from asker:
Thank you so much, AllegroTrans, for your contribution! Very briefly, the message is that our identity is not confined only to our body: we are interconnected with all other living beings, and we are also "intraconnected" from within, from the perspective of the whole; each of us maintains his own individuality and unique history, but is also intimately connected with other living beings and with nature, in the sense that we are "all one" with one another... It's a bit difficult to explain... the author uses a sort of equation: me + we = mwe (mwe is the whole)

What does living the life/living life mean?

It means that person is living very well or living to the fullest.
It means that person is happy and satisfied with what he has now.

https://hinative.com/questions/16328856

I understand it to mean enjoying and fully participating in the process to become a single community.

You could be right. Everybody participates in the process as individuals to become one community.

thank you so much, Helena, for your contribution!
Your suggestion has led me to think that perhaps "living our way" might also mean: "participating in our own way" in the sense "according to our capabilities..."
Many thanks for your feedback, dear Helena!

neutral Yvonne Gallagher : The phrase is not "living the life"?// sorry, don't see that at all. It's a verb

Hi, Yvonne! I interpreted 'living' as 'enjoying to the fullest'. A sort of play on words if you like, especially because it comes after 'sing the song of life'.//'Enjoying' is also a verb.
