: this doesn't work for me, as the expression nearly always precedes a "but" or "however" - in other words some sort of qualification of what has been said before. BUT "That being the case" seems OK!

I agree with Lincoln that it would be useful to see the previous sentence. It is nevertheless clear that the 'current' sentence is founded upon, and builds upon, what went before; if the current sentence was suggesting a contrary viewpoint or objective, it would more-likely begin with 'That said ...', "Despite that ...', or something similar.
