Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jan 3, 2005:
Sorry, my question might be not clear.
But I need help for "to swing a loan", NOT "a swing loan."

The context
"He is an owner of this tragic enterprise. Owner till me and my friends swing a loan and buy it out."

manage to get a loan

Ok, from your context this is what it means. To "swing" a loan means to manage to get one, be able to get one, that sort of thing.

agree James Girard : In this context, '...to swing a loan', rather than '...a swing loan', 'to manage to obtain a loan' is the correct meaning.

swing loan

Sometimes called a bridge loan, a swing loan is generally a loan that is secured by a borrower's current residence to obtain the funds needed to purchase a new home if the current residence will not be sold prior to the purchase of a new home.

SWING LOAN:
A short-term loan designed to bridge the borrower\'s finances between two events. For example, a person who buys a new home in April but cannot sell her old home until June may require a swing loan to carry both homes for the interim period until the old home may be sold and the proceeds used to pay out the swing loan. Also known as \"bridge financing\".

manage to obtain

usually swing means to be able to handle, in other words to be able to afford the payments on, but in your context, I would say it refers to actually being able to obtain the loan
Peer comment(s):

agree Ltemes : obtain sounds more elegant than "get".
