Non-PRO (3): philgoddard, writeaway, Rachel Fell

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

neutral B D Finch : Inadequate explanation!//You are quite right about my previous comment on D & B being irrelevant to a reconstruction project! However, even on a reconstruction project "construction drawings" are strictly contractually defined.

it's a non-pro question so no big explanation needed and you may notice it'sa REconstruction project not "design and build"
neutral Daryo : Just because the sticker put by the Asker says Non-PRO doesn't mean it really is // precision and good explanations are NEVER surplus to requirement, at least in my rulebook...

Drawings approved for use by the contractor for construction

There are usually many preliminary drawings produced by architects and engineers for planning permission and building control before the final construction drawings that comply with all regulations and that are approved by the client for construction. Only drawings signed off by the client as approved construction drawings may be used by the contractor. The contractor has a legal duty of care that means they must bring to the client's attention any problem with these construction drawings that may require a revision or further detail drawings to be issued. Use of any drawings not issued specifically as construction drawings is liable to be considered a breach of contract.

The fact that this project is for reconstruction does not affect the above explanation, the construction drawings are still the only drawings that the contractor may use for the reconstruction works.

The following is written in very simple language for explaining construction drawings to a non-professional client.

"Construction Drawings
We will produce the drawings necessary to explain the construction works to a contractor in order to build the project. Our services also include detailed interior drawings and plans such as precise kitchen and bathroom designs, and bespoke interior architectural details. In addition we will write a detailed specification document itemising all of the work involved in the construction of the design. Collating this information before works starts ensures that the project is of the best quality possible. This work coincides with RIBA Stage 4."

Peer comment(s):

neutral Yvonne Gallagher : it's a REconstruction project...

That makes no difference as far as the definition of "construction drawings" is concerned.
agree Daryo : It would be nice if some shorter version was possible.

Thanks Daryo. The shorter version is "construction drawings"! I assume that Diego needed to understand the term in order to translate it into Italian.

TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION DRAWING

This section deals with the various types of drawing required for a building project,
from the conceptual design stage to the preparation of production drawings. These
range from small scale drawings showing the location of a site in relation to local
geographic and infrastructure features, to very large scale production drawings
showing small details of the construction.

Drawings produced in construction are used by various parties, for example:
• Structural Engineer
• Services Engineer
• Architect
• Planning
• Building Control
• Quantity Surveyor.

Range of construction drawings

Working from the smallest scale to the largest scale used the range may be
summarised as follows:
1 Site Location Plans
2 Site Layout Plans
3 Sketch Drawings
4 General Arrangement Drawings (plans, sections and elevations)
5 Construction Details.

There are also other pieces of information, some of which require drawings, these are:
1 Schedules – for windows, doors, etc.
2 Specifications – materials and construction.

CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS

Generally, construction or "working" drawings furnish enough information for the Builder to complete an entire project and incorporate all three main groups of drawings-architectural, electrical, and mechanical. In drawings for simple structures, this grouping may be hard to discern because the same single drawing may contain both the electrical and mechanical layouts. In complicated structures, however, a combination of layouts is not possible because of overcrowding. In this case, the floor plan may be traced over and over for drawings for the electrical and mechanical layouts.

Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree B D Finch : Your Scottish ref doesn't deal with the contractual side as it is for teaching technical drawing. The importance of definition of construction drawings for pricing and works on site is contractually very important.
