English term

sulphahemoglobin

English Science Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-) Echium vulgare and Senecio vulgaris Poisoning
Talking about the clinical symptons of bulls who have ingested these plants:

Levels of haemoglobin and packed cell volume were close to the lower limit of the normal range and 8% methemoglobin was observed. ALAT, ã-GT, total proteins, cholesterol, uric acid and sulphahemoglobin remained within physiologic limits. Urine analysis showed cetonic bodies (> or = 160 mg/dl), glucose (> or = 2g/dl), protein (100mg/dl) and bilirubin traces.

Is this right? Can anyone tell me what this means please?
thanks

sulphemoglobin

sulph(a)emoglobin appears to be the correct form

hemoglobin with an extra sulphur molecule, preventing it from binding oxygen.

agree Elizabeth Rudin : Sulphaemoglobin (SHb).

agree Rachel Fell : also, ketonic bodies, rather, and optional methaemoglobin - and aren't physiologic limits normal limits?/Woops, indeed!

Well, ketone bodies more often than ketonic bodies, I think.
agree Jörgen Slet : sulph(a)emoglobin should be OK but sulfhemoglobin is a more popular variant

Yes, I didn't go far enough in Americanizing: preferred US form is sulfhemoglobin, of course.
