I have quite a different understanding of this word. It is often someone who is studious, a "school boy", but doesn't have street smarts. He is uncool, unhip, self-conscious, socially inept, often shy and awkward. But said by a sister, it could be an affectionate put-down, almost a back-handed compliment.
