Hay dos posibles explicaciones, pero me imagino que te serviría la primera: El "peso" de la fuente se refiere a si es negrita (bold) seminegrita (demi) o redonda (light). En programación se usa constantemente para mostrar información en pantalla. La primera página web que refiero te dará une ejemplo.

La otra definición es matemática y es mucho más compleja de lo que me imagino estás trabajando, pero te la anexo. El segundo website te lleva a un documento acerca de esto.

The “typeWeight” is a pre-defined constant, which determines the contribution of field type to the similarity of two fields. Different “typeWeight” values (in the range of 0 to 0.3) were used to evaluate the affect of field type on schema matching performance. Type face – use a clear, easy to read typestyle which has a semi-bold typeweight e.g. Arial or Comic Sans. Avoid cursive, ornate and italic fonts.
