Same as the standard guard, except the outer rim is extended to form a retractable pilot. The guard pilot slides over the outside diameter of the diaphragm and the hub or adapter flange.

Well, we're getting somewhere, but just a little more is needed. Is this diaphragm a part of a half-shaft axle, the front-wheel drive axle of an automobile? What is its function?

Perhaps more context would help: The guard pilot slides over the outside diameter of the diaphragm, and the hub or adapter flange. In place of the rivets the piloted guard incorporates three retention bolts. These bolts are to limit the axial travel of guard to prevent it if from being jacked free of the diaphragm, or rotated out of its proper positon. Jacking tap holes are provided in the guard to retract it away from the hub to allow removal of the flex unit.

Lamberto, could you possibly give more explanation of this? A pilot is usually a guide or centering piece. What kind of diaphragm and hub is involved, and why do they have to be shielded. From what?
