The other acceptable term for probation would be "libertad a prueba"..."Condena Condicional" is more formal...and that's it!...it's pretty straightforward...

agree bparciak : Soy abogada y condena condicional es correcto, pues en ésta, la ejecución de la condena es suspendida. En la libertad condicional la condena es cumplida pero se libera al reo por buena conducta o por haber cumplido un tiempo determinado de la pena.

Ademas, viniendo de un entorno legal, no es la primera vez que usaria el termino probation.

No ofense at all. But I'm SOOO used to this word that it just came out naturally. I quoted the dictionary reference just to have other support, not only my experience and word.

That's why I didn't quote that part of the definition in the first place. The correct expression would be, from my point of view, libertad condicional. But, I also wrote what the dictionary says, just for reference. Thanks. :)
