The other acceptable term for probation would be "libertad a prueba"..."Condena Condicional" is more formal...and that's it!...it's pretty straightforward...

: Soy abogada y condena condicional es correcto, pues en ésta, la ejecución de la condena es suspendida. En la libertad condicional la condena es cumplida pero se libera al reo por buena conducta o por haber cumplido un tiempo determinado de la pena.

No ofense at all. But I'm SOOO used to this word that it just came out naturally. I quoted the dictionary reference just to have other support, not only my experience and word.

That's why I didn't quote that part of the definition in the first place. The correct expression would be, from my point of view, libertad condicional. But, I also wrote what the dictionary says, just for reference. Thanks. :)
