English term

discrete CPU

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology) microprocessors
"Our goal is to develop and deliver innovative integrated platforms, and best-in-class discrete CPUs/GPUs to meet our customers’ needs."
NOTE: This was translated as "CPU/GPU discretos" but I can't find any exact hits for "CPU discreto" or "GPU discreto". Any ideas??

Discussion

Stuart Allsop Jul 31, 2006:
In other words, if you don't need a GPU in your application, then you can use JUST the discrete CPU, or if you don't need a CPU then you can use only the discrete GPU alone, or if you need both then you can use both the discrete CPU and the discrete GPU.
Stuart Allsop Jul 31, 2006:
"Discretos" is totally correct here, since this is referring to the fact that that the CPU and GPU are on two separate chips, rather than being INTEGRATED into the same chip. In electronics, "discreet" is an antonym for "integrated". ...

La mejor opción que se me ocurre es "CPUs sueltas", pero claro no es un estándar lingüístico muy alto, igual puedes encontrar otra expresión con este significado exacto

agree Jorge Merino : Me parece apropiado CPUs individuales

agree Ricardo Torres : también me parece más apropiado "individuales". Según Webopedia, Refers to a computer component or device that is distinct and treated as an individual unit, separable from the other components and devices

disagree Stuart Allsop : A discreet CPU is NOT an "additional" CPU. It is a " procesador discreto". It is quite possible for a system to have only one single discreet CPU, without any "additional" CPUs.

procesador discreto

This means "discrete" as opposed to "integrated". This is a common term in electronics, and you normally see it as "discreet electronics" or "discreet components".

The reason why you don't find many references to "CPU discreto" is probably because "CPU" is not really the right term in Spanish! (although it is still used). It should be "procesador". Here are some references to "procesador discreto":
