Standard expressions for body positions To make the 'rule' memorable, you want to use a standard expression, not a literal translation. The normal way in Spanish to say that someone is lying on their back is, indeed, "boca arriba," and, similarly, for facing downward, "boca abajo." Maybe these expressions are not as "baby-friendly" but they're the ones that would be remembered. And when it comes to preventing SIDS, for instance, the important thing is to use expressions that will help staff and/or parents remember.
