English term

Party configuration

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
Forma parte de un menú de un programa informático:

-Party configuration
-Add party
-Delete party

También tengo un mensaje de error:

The party does not exist.

¿Cómo puedo traducir ese party? ¿Cómo parte, como grupo?

Por cierto, no aparece ni una sola vez acompañado de third (third-party).

“Configuración de un grupo (o del grupo)” SEE OTHER OPTIONS BELOW

Hello Smonferrer:

I read your question and context.

The English term “party” has different translations to Spanish. You mentioned two of these translations: “parte” and “grupo”.

Definitively, we cannot invent another “meaning” of “party” with the context that we have.

The menu of the program says:
- Party configuration
- Add party
- Delete party

Before to “add” a “party” (un grupo), you don’t have a party (un grupo), for this reason if you want to “configure” the “party”, the program will show you an error that it says: “The party does not exist”.

When you “add” the “party”, you will not have more this error and you will “configure” the “party”.

But after that, if you give the order to “delete” “the party” , again you will have error of “The party does not exist”, when you try to “configure” the “party”.

I think it makes sense to consider that “party” is “un grupo”, if we don’t have more context offering us additional ideas about the data processed by this computer program (programa informático).

About “party” translated as “parte” it doesn’t make sense in a general case. It makes sense if this program talks about “parts” in other “menu” or if it is related to legal or judicial issues. The bilingual dictionaries says that “party” is “parte” in judicial issues.

My suggestion includes different alternatives:

- “Configuración de un grupo (o del grupo)”
- “Agregar un grupo (el grupo)”
- “Borrar un grupo (el grupo)”

And if the computing program is about judicial or political issues:

- “Configuración de un parte”
- “Agregar un parte”
- “Borrar un parte”

Other translations of “party” are: “partido” or “partido político” and “fiesta”. VERY IMPORTANT: If you find references of political issues or special celebrations, in these specific cases you can replace “grupo” for “partido”, or “fiesta” respectively.

In summary, you have to decide what translation you will use depending of the context of the rest of the program. If you don't have more elements to evaluate, as I said before, I suggest to use “grupo” that was one of the possible options that you was thinking before make the question.

I hope this analysis helps you in your work.

Regards

Domingo
