standard used as an intermediary to compare standards [1]
NOTES
1. For trace gas measurements within WMO/GAW, this refers in particular to gas (natural air or synthetic gas mixture) for use at different locations with assigned mole fraction of one or more trace species resulting from comparisons with laboratory standards by an approved laboratory, such as the WCC.
2. The term transfer standard is often used in the same sense as →travelling standard. Here, 'transfer standard' is reserved for purposes when the standard scale is actually transferred.
