The wipe-off device proves efficient to avoid cracking when casting bigger slabs. It basically deflects the water flow at a given distance below the mould, using rubber (black inner seal on the picture below left). This distance is alloy dependent and is part of the casting recipe. The water drying action is completed by blowing compressed air all around, just below the rubber.
Each wipe-off is supported by a dedicated frame, hanging from the casting pit head, and is adjustable in height using 4 synchronized electrical jacks.
