Type of intermediate school
This is how it goes: in the US there are different kinds of schools - elementary, middle or intermediate, high etc. A span school is one that can take children from kindergarten to the eighth grade or from 4th/6th grade to the 12th (perhaps depending on the state or policy). A span school is "wider" than a middle one: the elementary school is from 1-6 grades, middle/intermediary is 7-9, high school is 10-12 grades, a span school being 0-8 or 4/6-12, i. e. usually an eight/six year school. That is why these are called SPAN schools, span meaning интервал, промежуток, диапазон, протяжение. See the links

Perhaps it would make sense to differentiate in translation between средняя школа for middle/intermediate school and промежуточная школа for span school in your context.

: в pdf документе, который находится по вашей 1-й ссылке, сказано, что span school включает Pre-k to grade 6(Elementary School) и Grade 7 to 12 (Secondary School), т. е., выходит, полный цикл обучения, включая дошкольное.

While this program is aimed at high school students, younger students have qualified and excelled in this program as well. SPAN offers many opportunities that can be configured many ways. It permits motivated high school students to get started on their college education or just take courses that aren’t available at their local high school. Perhaps your high school student would like to take a college course during IUPUI’s summer school. Maybe your student would like to attend half a day at their high school and a half-day at IUPUI. Or maybe your gifted high schooler has had enough of high school or home school and is ready for the challenge of full-time college classes. Qualified students can design a program at IUPUI to fit their needs.

: What does it have to do with SPAN SCHOOLS? There is no mention of it whatever in your link. Alternative schools in California are called just like that, see http://tinyurl.com/yhor3w +permits high school students:( a span takes also 1 grade pupils.
