Static Representation of Structured Devices

Structured devices like relays or PLC cards contain other devices as substructure and are typically distributed over several sheets. Normally such objects are represented by shapes containing a dynamic area. But, not at least to support the import of shapes and masters from other systems, Engineering Base supports static representations for structured devices, too. In shape construction both options are available.

In the static variant of structured devices, pins of shapes representing sub-devices cannot be connected to wires. Placing such shapes will therefore not result in wiring information being created. The only variable part of these shapes is the content of their attributes reflecting changes in related sub-devices and their wiring.

Contrary to the dynamic variant, static representations of structured devices can contain more than one shape of the same type. The link to the related shapes on other sheets is done using the Position attribute.

To discriminate between the two variants in the circuit diagram

Click on the shape representing a structured device.

If you observe the behavior of the left variant, you have a dynamic representation. If you see rather the behavior of the right variant, you have a static representation of a structured device.

The Navigate function is only available on the shape representing the entire device.
